Weather

The country has a typically continental interior climate with hot summers, intensely cold winters and low rainfall.

Passport / Visa Requirements

Most nationalities require a visa; however, the situation is constantly changing and it is best to contact your nearest Kyrgyz embassy for details.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are recommended for cholera, hepatitis A and B, diphtheria, tuberculosis and tetanus. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if coming from an infected area.

Political / Economic Situation

Kyrgyzstan has recovered well from the immediate post-Soviet upheaval and has a stable government actively promoting foreign investment with some success.

Airports / Air Access

Bishkek's international airport has flights to Moscow, Istanbul, Frankfurt, Tashkent and Almaty and the capital is the best base for tourists visiting Kyrgyzstan. There is rail transport from Bishkek to Lake Issyk-Kul and Tashkent. Air transport is available from the capital to Osh for the Fergana-Talas Corridor and to Naryn for that region's attractions and for the Saimalu Tash rock paintings.

Road Conditions / Infrastructure

There is a large road network but conditions vary making a four-wheel drive vehicle essential.
