Weather

The country has a typically continental interior climate with hot summers, intensely cold winters and low rainfall.

Passport / Visa Requirements

Visas are required by all nationalities except from the CIS states; however, this may change at any time so it is advisable to contact your local embassy for details.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are recommended for cholera, hepatitis A and B, diphtheria, tuberculosis and tetanus. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if coming from an infected area.

Political / Economic Situation

This new country at first suffered badly from civil war; however, since ceasefires in the early 1990s, political and economic progress has been made.

Restrictions

It would be wise to avoid the immediate border area with Afghanistan as members of the former Afghan government are based in the area.

Airports / Air Access

Dushanbe is served by international flights from Moscow, Karachi and Delhi and there are domestic airports at Penjikent, Khujand, Ura Tyube and Isfara.

Road Conditions / Infrastructure

All primary Silk Road sites are served by road transport.
