Weather

Central Turkey has the continental climate of cold winters and hot summers while the coast is much more Mediterranean-like with a more evenly spread temperature range.

Passport / Visa Requirements

Many nationalities either do not need visas or can obtain them on arrival. For an up-to-date list please consult your nearest Turkish embassy.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations for hepatitis A and B are recommended.

Political / Economic Situation

The government of Turkey is steadily becoming more democratic and has applied to join the European Community.

Restrictions

Certain parts of Eastern Turkey, especially the Kurdish areas, can be unsafe for travellers. Please consult your local embassy and tour company for details.

Airports / Air Access

Istanbul and Antalya both have international airports, while Nevsehir and Konya are close to domestic airports and Denizli is served by Cardak airport 61 kilometres away.

Road Conditions / Infrastructure

All Silk Road sites are also accessible by road and rail transport.
