Travel Tips and Country Facts

Weather

Uzbekistan has an even more extreme version of the continental interior climate than some of its neighbours due to its remote location in the centre of Asia. Temperatures in winter are often well below freezing while the summer can become unbearably hot.

Passport / Visa Requirements

All nationalities except those from the CIS require a visa.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are recommended for cholera, hepatitis A and B, diphtheria, tuberculosis and tetanus. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if coming from an infected area.

Political / Economic Situation

The country is largely self-sufficient in fuel and food and for this reason has achieved a large degree of stability as well as a fairly prosperous economy.

Restrictions

None.

Airports / Air Access

Tashkent boasts one of Central Asia's busiest airports, which has flights to many European, Middle Eastern and Asian capitals, as well as cities throughout the former Soviet Union and Uzbekistan. Samarkand and Bukhara also have international airports as does Urgench, which is near Khiva.

Road Conditions / Infrastructure

All of Uzbekistan's primary Silk Road sites are served by rail or motor transport, as are the secondary sites.
